The Library is located at 11121 Brookshire Avenue next to City Hall.
We have a vast selection of books,magazines, pamphlets, videos,
compact discs and audio tapes for both adults and children. Our
trained Information Staff is eager to assist you in any way, and
we invite you to take advantage of our many resources.

Preschool Story Time
Join the Children's Librarian every Tuesday morning from 10:30 to
11:00 am for stories, songs and fingerplays. Preschool ages 3 to 5
are welcome.
Grandparents and Books
Volunteer To Read To Children
Grandparents and Books is an intergenerational program in which older
adults are trained to read stories to children in the library and FHP
Downey Medical Center. Our next Grandparents and Books training will be
at 9:00 am to noon. If you would like to read to children in the library
or Medical Center, please call Downey City Library, Volunteer Services.
Adult Literacy Program
The Downey City Library Adult Literacy Program provides individual
tutoring for adults in basic reading and writing skills. Volunteers
provide free confidential one-to-one tutoring. You can help by
referring those who need help to this service or volunteering to
help others learn to read better. For further information, please

Friends of the Downey City Library
The Friends of the Downey City Library is an organization that
enthusiastically supports library programs and services. You may
join the Friends by getting a membership form anytime the library
is open by visting the Friends Around the Corner Gift Shop.Friends
of the Downey City Library meetings are held on the second Wednesday
of every month at 9:30 am in the Cormack Meeting Room.

Dial In Catalog Via Modem
The Downey City Library proudly announces Dial In Catalog. If you
have a modem on your home computer, you may have access to the library
computer. You may check to see if the library has a book, check to
see the status of books you have on loan or put a book on Hold. An
exciting feature of this new service is that you will be able to
retrieve full text magazine articles and journal citations from home.

Books On Wheels
The Assistance League of Downey, in partnership with the Downey City
Library, delivers books to homebound Downey residents. If you are
interested in receiving this free service, please contact Volunteer
